Stephen W IVEY is the forth of nine children born to Benjamin IVEY and his wife Mary SHANKLE of Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina formerly of Randolph County, North Carolina.

Stephen W IVEY moved to Randolph County, North Carolina by the 1850 U S Census Where he is working as a farm laborer on the property of widow Tabitha SAVAGE YORK who is raising a household of YORK girls, an infant YORK boy and a single YORK mother who all needed support and food on the table.

Stephen W. IVEY, age 24, married on 3 Nov 1850 in Randolph County, North Carolina to Mary "Polly" YORK, age 24, daughter of Jabez YORK and his wife Tabitha SAVAGE . Mary "Polly" YORK, was one of the girls on the farm where Stephen worked for his future mother in law.

Stephen and Mary IVEY continued farming and started their family on their farm for the next twelve years. On 13 June 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate Army, in Randolph County, North Carolina, Company M, known as the Randolph Hornets, 22nd North Carolina Regiment. He was discharged on 13 June 1862 by reason of being overage, at age 36. Stephen returned back home and they added another daughter, Julia Ann IVEY to the family on 20 May 1863.

Stephen joined another Confederate Army, Company B, 36th Regiment in the North Carolina Troops on 29 January 1863 for the War Between the States for some unknown reason. He was present or accounted for for through June 1863 when he was hospitalized. He died 24 July 1863, probably at a military hospital in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina. Stephen W IVEY is buried in the Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
