Samuel (Sam) Harris Wells, Jr. of Miami, OK passed away Thursday July 2, 2015 at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, OK. He was 75.

Sam was born August 24, 1939 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Samuel Harris and Eula Elizabeth (Hurt) Wells, Sr. He had lived in Miami since 1965 moving from Norman, OK. He was a professor at N.E. O. A&M College in Miami from 1965 to 2007 teaching Geology and Physical Science.

Sam was called the father of Miami's youth soccer programs. He coached soccer at N.E.O. A&M for 2 years in the late 1970's and in 1980 created what would become the Miami Regional Soccer Association, where he served as its head until his death. He was a member of the Oklahoma Soccer Assn. and Green Country Soccer Assn. He was a member of the referees unit and was a Certified Referee Instructor. Sam was an avid drum and bugle corps fan and parent. He was very invested in genealogy for the Wells and Fauber families.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jeanne Keating.

He married Dixie Fauber on November 25, 1960 in Santa Fe, NM. She survives of the home. Additional survivor includes 3 sons Samuel Harris Wells, III of Columbus, OH, Timothy Allen Wells of Vancouver, WA and Benjamin Thomas Wells and wife Linda Ann of Miami, OK, a daughter Sarah Louise Mahurin and husand Wesley of Miami, OK, 2 brothers Norman Carson of Beaver Falls, PA and Parker Harris Wells of San Juan Pueblo, NM, 4 grandchildren Josh Williams, Madison Wells, Joshua Mahurin and Faith Brandon and husband Jason. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Reception and Visitation will be Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Sam Wells Soccer Complex in Miami, OK. Eulogists will be Bob Crawford, Monty Franks and Jim Ellis. The family requests all soccer players and students and guests wear their favorite sports team or soccer attire, preferably no black. Memorials are suggested to the Sam Wells Scholarship Fund in care of Paul Thomas Funeral Funeral Home. Services have been placed in the care of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
