Cora Leah Meek, 84, of Marshall, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at First Christian Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church in the care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born April 26, 1920, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Milo B. and Mabel E. Meek. The family moved to Saline County in 1930 and she had lived here since then except for two years during World War II when she worked for the Adjutant General's Office of the War Department in Washington, D.C. She had a bachelor of science degree and master's degree in education from Central Missouri State University. She taught and supervised education in the public schools of Saline County for 37 years. She retired in 1979 from Sweet Springs R-7 High School where she had served as high school principal for 23 years. She had also served as high school principal at Blackburn and Nelson schools. She began her career at rural High Hill School near Slater. She worked as part-time attendant at the Saline County Juvenile Center from 1980 until 1993. She had served as president of Saline County Teachers Association and president of C.M.S.U. Secondary Principals District Association. After retirement, she was the president of Saline County Area Retired Teachers Association for seven years and president of Saline County Women's Jefferson Democratic Club for eight years. She was an elder in the First Christian Church of Marshall, where she had served as chairman of most committees at some point, including chairman of the board in 1988. Survivors include one sister, Vera Brockmeier of Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell Meek, Ralph Meek and Harrison Meek in infancy; and one sister, Mabel Meek.
