LORAINE -- Emma Jean Cornutt, age 75, of Abilene and formerly of Mitchell County, died Monday, July 24, 2006, at Hendrick Hospice of Abilene.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Loraine under the direction of Kiker - Seale Funeral Home. Her grandson and pastor of First Baptist Church of Moran, Corey Cornutt, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Loraine Cemetery.

Emma Jean was born on January 14, 1931, in Taylor County to James Frank and Emma Jane (Hendon) Blair. Her family worked as migrant farm workers most of her childhood and they eventually settled in Merkel. She married Lee Roy Cornutt on August 23, 1949 in Colorado City. She was a housewife, raised two boys and helped out on the farm in the Landers Community. She also loved to cook. Her family loved her famous chocolate pies and chicken - fried steak. She also enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and crocheting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Loraine.

Survivors include: one son, Donnie Cornutt and wife, Jarmila, of Champion; two granddaughters, Kimberly Gray and husband, Tim, of Champion and Joanna Self and husband, Matt, of Champion; four grandsons, Ray Cornutt and wife, Tonya, of Sweetwater, Heath Cornutt of Sweetwater, Jason Cornutt and wife, Amy, of Sweetwater and Corey Cornutt and wife, Cheryl, of Moran; eight great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Curnutt on February 14, 2006; and one son, Dennis Cornutt on March 11, 2005.

Pallbearers are: Matt Self, Tim Gray, Mark Cornutt, Jim Dale, Gary Cordle, Randy Merket and Kim Hall.
