E.A. Belew was born in Huntsville, Alabama, March 24, 1842; died at Mountain Grove, Mo., August 16, 1920.
Ailsie Lavernia Rice-Belew, born February 15, 1846; died December 16, 1922. She was the daughter of Rev. John and Mary Seals-Rice and sister to Rev. J.S. Rice, formerly of Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. Belew were married August 30, 1866. They were both members of the Baptist church and for many years had their membership at Ozark church, near Houston, where they resided many years. To this union seven children were born, six now living: Mrs. Mary M,, wife of H.C. Steffens, Houston, Mo.; Caroline E., wife of Lance Lupton, now of San Antonio, Texas; Dora L. Gress, Omaha, Neb.; and Anna, who died at the age of 21; the sons are Elmer D. Belew, Everett, Washington; John H. of Omaha, Neb.; and Everett E., Rochester, New York.
The family moved from here to Nebraska, where they lived for a number of years. Later, when their children were all doing for themselves and were settled there and other places, they with their daughter, Mrs. Gress, came back and located near Mountain Grove, where Mr. Belew died at the time above mentioned. Mrs. Belew came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Steffens, Mrs. Gress going back to Omaha to reside. She was tenderly cared for by the Steffens family until from the ravages of declining health and her advanced years, she sank into the arms of her Saviour, where we are sure all is well with her.
These two dear old neighbors of ours now sleep side by side in the cemetery here and the wind sings a silent requiem to their departure.
