She was a native of Coffee County, but she graduated from Blackshear High School. She retired from John H. Swisher Cigar Factory as a packer, and she was a member of University Blvd. Church of God. She will be affectionately known for making pound cakes, pecan pies and crocheting for the people she loved. Mrs. Chaney was a wonderful Christian lady who loved her family and her church.
She is preceded death by her parents, E. D. Taylor and Nancy Nettles Taylor; her first husband, W. Hartridge Batten; her second husband, Walter Chaney; two sons, Jerry Russell Batten and Donald Lee Batten; one grandson, Robert Hartridge Batten; one sister, Pearlie Swindell; and two brothers, Richard Taylor and J. C. Taylor.
Survivors include two grandsons, Johnny Lee Batten (Patty) of Waycross, and Russell L. Batten of Hollywood, FL; two granddaughters, Sabrina Pippin (Kevin) of Patterson, and Katherine Tasha Batten (Kevin Mikell) of Alma; five great grandchildren, Brinalee Pippin, Blake Mikell, Zachary Mikell, Nathan Batten and DeAnna Batten Peacock; one great great grandchild; two sisters, Addie Crews of Blackshear, and Valree Miller (Charles) of Jasper, GA; one brother, Trenton Taylor (Shirley) of Orange Park, FL; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday (August 8, 2015) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
