The following news dispatch dated January 13 at Hardin, Montana, will be of interest to many of our readers. Mr. Bowman was sheriff of Nuckolls county (sic) in 1887 and took a very active part in local politics, as well as the general affairs of the community, while he resided here.

Funeral services for Alfred H. Bowman, 79, who died of a heart attack Friday night at his farm home four miles south of Wyola, were to be held at the Baptist church here this afternoon at 2 o’clock.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. A.B. Hubbard of the First Baptist church of Lodge Grass. He will be assisted by the Rev. N.E. Hannant, pastor of the First Congregational church of Hardin.

Services at the grave will be in charge of the St. John lodge No. 92, A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Bowman who had made his home in Hardin since 1909, took a leading part in the creation of Big Horn county (sic), and at the election creating the county on January 6, 1913, he was elected a member of the first board of county commissioners. He acted as chairman of the board for 12 years.

He was born in Marshall county (sic), Illinois, on April 16, 1857. While a small boy his parents moved to Clinton county (sic), Missouri.

He received his education in the schools there and after arriving at young manhood, he engaged in farming in that region. In 1884 he moved to Nebraska where he engaged in the lumber and general merchandise business. He was also active in the banking business, being president of the First National bank at Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Bowman; a daughter, Mrs. Charles R. Chaff of Ionia, and three sons, Elmer K. Bowman, chairman of the state hail insurance board of Helena; Alvin J. Bowman, of the Huntley project; and Carl E. Bowman, assistant cashier of the First National bank of Hardin.
