RANDOLPH - Mrs. Laura Bassingthwaite, 76, died Saturday at the Eastern Star Home, where she had resided since 1966. She was born in Rutland on October 30, 1895, the daughter of Alfred and Eliza (Hathorn) Abbott. On April 12, 1913, she was married to George Chase of Bethel. He died in 1953.

For a number of years she operated a nursing home in Bethel. On July 17, 1954, she was married to James Bassingthwaite, who died on June 6, 1963.

She was a member of Beulah Chapter. No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star, in Randolph and a past matron of White River Chapter OES in Bethel. She was also affiliated with the Bethany Congregational Church in Randolph.

She leaves four children by her first marriage, Alfred Chase of Meriden, New Hampshire, Fred Chase of Bethel, Mrs. Susan Lane of San Jose, California and Mrs. Laura Fifield of Everett. Washington; and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Day Funeral home in Randolph on Monday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Albert Kime officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Bethel. The Day Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
