She came to Amarillo in 1964 to be part of the Amarillo Air Force Base. When the base closed, she elected to stay in Amarillo. She worked for numerous businesses in the area taking care of their books. She was very involved in church activities at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by Casmiro and Rosa Arriaga (parents), Elma Arriaga (sister),Tony Arriaga (Brother).

She is survived by 3 sisters-Irma Duarte, Eva Arriaga, Rachael Garza and husband Ed, 1 Daughter-Cheryl Holmes and husband Buddy, 2 Sons-Roy Byrd and wife Judy, Lee Byrd and wife Cindy, Grandkids-Ryan, Lisa, Lola, Evan, and Numerous great-grandkids

Benilde “Betty” A. Byrd, 86, of Amarillo died Monday, July 27, 2015.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Plum Creek Healthcare Residence Chapel, 5601 Plum Creek Dr.

Betty came to Amarillo in 1964 to be part of the Amarillo Air Force Base. In 1968, when the base closed, Betty elected to stay here in Amarillo. Over the years she worked for numerous businesses in the area taking care of their books. As a member of Saint Hyacinth’s Catholic Church Betty was very involved in church activities, and was a devout Catholic. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Casmiro and Rosa Arriaga; a sister, Elma Arriaga; and a brother, Tony Arriaga.

Survivors include three sisters, Irma Duarte, Eva Arriaga and Rachael Garza and husband Ed; a daughter, Cheryl Holmes and husband Buddy; two sons, Roy Byrd and wife Judy and Lee Byrd and wife Cindy; her grandkids, Ryan, Lisa, Lola and Evan; and numerous great-grandkids.
