Cullen was the 7th child of Cicero & Mattie Messer Alston. On Sept 7, 1908 in Wanette, Pottawatomie, Oklahoma he married Elizabeth Thompson and they had 7 children but only raised 4. He was a house carpenter and died at 58 of Arterio Sclerosis and Heart Disease with decompensation.
