Bright-Holland Funeral Home will direct a memorial service for Alan scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the Bright-Holland Chapel in Paris, with the Rev. Rocky Burrow officiating.
Alan was the grandson of the late Henry T. Arney, Rosalie (Booth) Arney, Dewey S. Vanderburg and Dessie (Renfro) Vanderburg, all of Chicota. He is survived by his wife, Ann, his mother, Freda; his brother, Michael Vanderburg, and Michael’s wife, Inez Vanderburg, of Austin; his brother, Terry Vanderburg, of Austin; three nieces, Juliana Vanderburg, Grace Vanderburg and Rosie Vanderburg, all of Austin; and a nephew, Andrew Vanderburg, of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
His surviving aunts and uncles are Nathalie Blackburn, Nolan Arney, Beth Parson, Billie Ruth Armstrong, Merrell Vanderburg, Jerrell Vanderburg and Neal Vanderburg.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, and the following aunts and uncles: Geraldine Loman, Larry Dean Vanderburg, Jimmy Lee Vanderburg, James Robert Vanderburg, Lawrence (Buck) Arney, Von Arney, Phara Davis, Glenda Jean (Jeannie) Arney and Lynn Arney.
Alan was a graduate of North Lamar High School and Texas A&M University, College Station, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. After graduation from Texas A&M, he returned to live in Lamar County and worked throughout northeast Texas as a professional engineer, both in industry and as a consultant. At the time of his death, he was self-employed.
In addition to the memorial service, an interment of ashes has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Forest Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Rocky Burrow officiating. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of your choice.
