Resident Couple in Victor Mark 56th Year of Marriage Today

Victor — This evening is more
than the night before Christmas
to two Victor's prominent residents,
for just 56 years ago, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles E. Wilcox of West Main
Street were married.
Wilcox, who will celebrate his 89th
birthday Feb. 27***, is the founder of
the Wilcox Tank Company, which
today is known as the Wilcox-Johnson
Tank Company Inc. He is
the son of the late Hiram and
Cynthia Leete Wilcox, pioneer settlers
in this community.
His first shop was built on the
old Wilcox homestead, southwest of
the village, in 1873. There he made
most of his own tools and with the
use of a treadmill, operated by
horse power, he soon was filling
orders for windmills. In a short
time he branched to hydraulics an
small wood tanks and in late
years to structural steel and large
wood containers. He still is active,
keenly interested in modern
mechanical devices and goes out
to the shop each day to "tinker
about."
Mrs. Wilcox will celebrate her
80th birthday, Apr. 4. She is the
daughter of Joseph and Mary Horton
Tiffany of East Bloomfield. She
was married to Wilcox in the Tiffany
homestead, Dec. 24, 1883, by the
Rev. William Armstrong, then pastor
of the East Bloomfield Methodist
Church. She and her husband
set up housekeeping on the Wilcox
farm, moving into the village in
1891. They have resided in their
present home since 1910.
They have four children, Hiram
T. Wilcox, Doris Wilcox Johnson,
Marietta Wilcox, all of Victor, the
two daughters living at home; and
C. Milton Wilcox of Rochester.
There are two grandchildren,
Elaine Johnson and John Wilcox,
both of Victor.

*** it appears that the reporter reversed the birth dates for Charles & Martha. Census records show Martha born in Feb and Charles born in April.
