Nell Catherine Pinkston Cunny of Vicksburg passed away August 1 2015, following a brief illness. Born in Vicksburg on March 1, 1926, she was a life-long resident. She was the daughter of Charles James Pinkston, Sr. and Olea Ann Bacon Pinkston.
She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy in the class of 1945 and then worked as an executive assistant for MSystems. After a long courtship, she married Robert William Cunny of Chicago and became a fulltime homemaker. She was active in the Junior Auxiliary, Community Concerts Association, Jett Elementary PTA, and Vicksburg High School Band Parents. She drove many miles ferrying her daughters to piano lessons, art lessons, the bookmobile, and scout meetings.
Nell was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg where she was a deacon, was involved in many activities including the Ruth Circle and Kids Club, and was given honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. Her hobbies included cooking, working the crossword, playing bridge, and hosting dinner parties. Throughout her life Nell let a smile be her umbrella. Her sunny disposition and sincere interest in other people led her to many life-long friendships. Her friends and family will treasure memories of Nell’s funny stories and the many good times that they shared.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles James Pinkston, Jr. (Helen Goldman Pinkston), and her twin brother Neil Crawford Pinkston.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years Robert William Cunny, her sister Pauline Thomas Turner of Marianna, FL, her sister-in-law Shirley Hatton Pinkston of Ossippee, NH, her daughters Helen Catherine Cunny (Hudson K. Bates) of Durham, NC and Kelley Ann Cunny (Gregg L. Sporar) of Austin, TX, her granddaughters Haley Katherine Bates and Kathryn Claire Bates of Durham, NC, special friends Nancy and Burhman Gates, Anne Wylie, and her extended Pinkston family.
Honorary pallbearers are Sandy Clark, Beth and Moody Culpepper, Martha and Don Day, Kenneth Halford, Mary Ruth and Herb Jones, Margie and Don Neumann, and Ruth Circle.
Visitation will be 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Monday August 3,2015 at Glenwood Funeral Home and 10:a.m. to 11:00a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church services will be 11:00a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Green Lawn Gardens Cemetery.
