Joseph Bradish was born September 15, 1813 in Woodbury, Washington County, Vermont to Robert and Abigail "Nabby" Jackson Bradish. He was the ninth child born in a family of eleven children. His birth date is calculated from his age at the time of death of 74 years, 4 months and 5 days. Some records have that he was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts, but that is not supported by Winchendon Vital Records. The family left there and moved to Vermont in 1807 and then to Woodbury sometime before 1810.

On January 4, 1833 Joseph married Sally Poor, daughter of Daniel and Polly Poor of Winchendon. Sally was born September 10, 1815 in Winchendon.

Sally passed away June 27, 1843 in Washington County, Vermont and about 1846 Joseph married his second wife, Harriet N. Davis.

Joseph and Harried moved to Montpelier, Vermont where Joseph was the Town Constable/Deputy Sheriff for several years. The lived the rest of their lives in Montpelier and died there.
