Claude E. Moore, 90, of 2020 Cragmont St., formerly of Kent, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.
He was born March 14, 1916, in Jefferson County, the son of Charles and Anna Lyle Moore. He retired in 1981 from the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corp. He was a member of Kent Christian Church, which he joined in 1924, and was an elder, trustee, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He was the leading scorer on the Hanover High School basketball team his senior year in 1933. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden, and woodworking. He and his mother sold flowers and vegetables at the Farmers Market in downtown Madison.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Schmidlap Moore, whom he married Dec. 12, 1936; one daughter, Judy Buchheit of Kent; two sons, Ronald Moore of Scottsburg and William Moore of Madison; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Frieda Moore, Thelma Imbler and Esther Nevel; and three brothers, David, Charles Howard and Joseph Moore.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kent Christian Church. Burial will be in Kent Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Hanover Chapel and after noon Tuesday at the church.
