The eldest son of Seeley Finch and Maria W. Provost, Ira A. Finch came with his family to Elsie, Michigan from Xenia, Ohio in 1867. On June 28, 1879, he took for his wife, M.Ardell Eddy, only daughter of Ira G. Eddy and Lucy C. Hustin, of Elsie. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Glen E. and Seeley I.

Mr. Finch was a member of the Masonic order. During the years immediately preceding his death, he had been associated in the lumber business with his brother, Charles, and F. Jones in British Columbia. Ira Finch died suddenly at Kimberly, B.C. on March 21, 1902, aged 53 years, 5 months and 6 days. The wife, two sons, mother (Mrs. S. G. Eddy), two brothers, Philip and Charles, two sisters, Mrs. [Mary Finch] Macomber and Mrs. [Kate Finch] Kendrick of St. Johns, survived him.
