KEARNEY — Marion E. Schwab, 83, of Kearney died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at CHI Health Good Samaritan.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton with the Rev. Dean Hanson officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Pleasanton Cemetery.
Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1931, in Rockland, Maine, to Donald and Thelma Farris. She was raised in Warren, Maine, and graduated from Warren High School in 1949. Upon her graduation, she entered the U.S. Army. She was in cryptography, creating and breaking codes. She was posted in Virginia, New Jersey and Moses Lake, Wash. She was honorably discharged in 1954.
She married Darwin Schwab, whom she met while both were serving in the military, on Sept. 17, 1953, in Seattle. After their marriage, the couple and their children lived around the world while Darwin served 25 years in the Army. In 1974, they retired to Pleasanton.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton and enjoyed the outdoors, a good card game and her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Kris Epley and husband David of Wood River and Kelly Carman of Kearney; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Tony Farris of Morrill, Maine, David Farris of Manchester, Conn., and Ken Farris of Moyock, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin; parents; two sisters, Donna Farris and Mary Smith; and brother, Lester Farris.
