Boissevain, Va., March 11 - Two Pocahontas Fuel company coal loaders were killed outright early this morning in a slate fall at the Boissevain mine operations.

They were Kemper Silvester Powell, 52, of Freeman, and Virgil Miles Harless, 22 of Boissevain. No one else was reported injured. Powell and Harless, working on the third shift, were the only two workers in the immediate vicinity when the slate fall occurred.

A veteran of both world wars, Powell was the father of a three year old son, Kemper, Jr. Other survivors include his widow, the former Miss Alice Treolo; four brothers, B.H. Powell, Keystone; R.H. Powell, Wilcoe; Harry Powell, Gary; and Ambrose Powell, Illinois.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Maybeury Methodist church. Interment will be in the Woodlawn cemetery near Bluefield. The Pocahontas American Legion Post No. 14 will be in charge of graveside services.

Pall bearers will be members of the legion. Flower bearers will be members of the choir of the Methodist church at Maybeury. The body will be taken from the funeral home to the residence at Freeman at 4 p.m. Sunday. Monday at 1 p.m. it will be taken to the church to await the funeral hour.
