Emma Louise Durant was born on April 20, 1852 in Saint Charles, Kane County, Illinois Charles. Her parents were Bryant Durant (a bricklayer & farmer) and Jerusha Shurtleff. She was born and raised in a brick farm house that her father built in 1843 (It's now an historic house open to the public located in the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve). She married Larmon B. Lane on December 22, 1887 in Kane County. After Larmon died she built a Queen Anne style home completed in 1898 (it still exists). She and her parents lived there. Emma was a school teacher at the time. After the death of her parents, she took in boarders. Two of them, Dr. & Mrs. Hawkins, bought the house from her in 1902. Emma died on April 1, 1922 in Illinois.
