Ollie Neal was the son of Joshua Neal and Maria Emily Johnson. His mother passed away giving birth to him and he went to live with his grandparents, David and Melvina Johnson. Ollie married Fanny Braswell and had 8 children. He later changed his name to JB Gortney, remarried and had 6 more children. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Murfreesboro, TN.
