Battaile Fitzhugh Taliferro Conway was born January 1, 1907 in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia, the third child of Alfred Taliaferro Conway (1875-1939) and Elizabeth LeRoy Hart Conway (1883-1972). He was given the name Battaile Fitzhugh Taliferro Conway. His family called him Taliferro . As a young man he assumed the name Alfred Taliaferro Conway, Jr. During his early years his friends nicknamed him Bob, a name that stayed with him until his death. When a very young man, he moved to Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. On July 31, 1924, he married Dora Pauline Wilson (1906-1950). They had three daughters born in 1927, 1928 and 1930. As of this date, two are living, the second child Eleanor Pauline Conway, passed away in 2001. In 1940, they moved to Washington, DC where he and Pauline ran a small tearoom. In 1941, they moved to Miami, Dade County, Florida. Bob and Pauline were divorced in 1947. He was employed by Eastern Airlines, Seaboard Railway and Fence Masters. Bob was known by many as a very good auto mechanic and loved tinkering with automobiles, appreciated by many during the World War II years when cars needed to be well maintained.
