Averil Banks (nee Cropp), was born July 18, 1920, at Gerald, Saskatchewan. She had a variety of careers, from hairdresser, farmer, and factory worker manufacturing radar during WWII, to nurse and teacher. Averil, who received her Bachelor of Household Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1951 and undertook Deaconess training through the United Church of Canada in 1968, accompanied her husband, United Church minister Rev. Dr. A. N. Banks, to pastoral charges in B.C., Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Ontario. In more recent years, she lived in Richmond, B.C., attending St Andrew Wesley and Gilmore Park United Churches.
