Born in Irondale, Alabama
Died March 6, 1987 at Schumpert Medical Center after a long illness.
Resident of Shreveport for the past 65 years.

Assistant Fire Chief P.O. Cantrell was employed on the Shreveport Fire Department on July 1, 1922, was promoted to Captain on April 1, 1941, to District Chief on November 1, 1942, and to Assistant Fire Chief on May 1, 1958. He retired on March 1, 1965 after serving 42 years and 8 months.

Survivors: wife Carrie Y. Cantrell of Shreveport; one son Bobby Cantrell (wife Dru) of North Little Rock, AR; two daughters, Mildred Hearn (husband Tom) and Wilda Barber (husband Grady) of Shreveport; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: Rose-Neath Funeral Home Southside Chapel March 9, 1987, with Rev. Fisk Ray officiating, assisted by Rev. Boyce Moon and Rev. Calvin Cantrell (both are his nephews)
Burial: Forest Park West Cemetery
Pallbearers: his brother-in-law, C.W. Loyd, and his nephews W.L. Cantrell, J.R. Cantrell, David Cantrell, Jr., LeRoy Cantrell and Leo Cantrell.
