Andy Jackson Akers, 78, of the 8700 block of Hammett Ave., died Dec. 6, 1997.

Born in Tazewell, Va., Mr. Akers had retired from civil service at the Naval Air
Rework Facility. He was a member and deacon of Ocean View Baptist Church; member
of the Board of Directors of Union Mission; 50-year member of Corinthian Masonic
Lodge (NU)266, AF & AM; 33rd degree Mason in the Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies;
50-year member and past high priest of John Walters Royal Arch (NU)68;
Westminster Chapter (NU)99 Order of Eastern Star; and chaplain and life member
of B & B Hunt Club. He dedicated his life to the service of God and others. He
is deeply loved and will be missed.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Blanche H. Akers; a daughter, Joan
Morrison Brown of Ivor; five sisters; three brothers; three grandchildren,
Robert Morrison, Samantha M. Hubbs and Denise M. Clark; two great-grandchildren,
Jonathan and Jessica Clark; and numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by
a son, Jack Akers.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Ocean View Baptist Church by
Dr. David Clay. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. In
lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union Mission. Masonic rites
will be accorded at the graveside.
