Agnes Marie Blumhagen, 98, Castalia, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wis., following a brief illness.

Agnes was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Springfield Township, rural Decorah, Iowa to Ole and Agatha (Sjoboen) Russett. She attended country schools through the eighth grade. Agnes was united in marriage to Lloyd William Blumhagen Feb. 14, 1933, in Galena, Il. Four children were born to this union.

Agnes was a farm wife who took care of the children and helped with all the chores on the farm. She was a long time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. She enjoyed crocheting, cards, sewing, flowers, the outdoors and listening to Daniel O'Donnell music. She wrote her autobiography in 2006. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her four children, Darlene (Donald) Gilster, Postville, Dale (Donna) Blumhagen, Bloomfield, Gerald (Marie) Blumhagen, Castalia, Shirley (Edward) Saucer, Marion; sister-in-law, Mae Russett, Ulysses, KS; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd Blumhagen; five brothers, Edgar Russett, Clarence Russett, Oscar Russett, Daniel Russett, Olaf Russett; two sisters, Jennie Russett and Grace Russett.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. The Rev. Dave Lenth will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
