BIRDWELL. Mr. William Elbert Birdwell died at his home in Farmville, Va., on September 6, 1945, aged 63. He had suffered with heart trouble for some months. Mr. Birdwell had been manager of the American Railway Express office in Farmville for many years, and had the respect and confidence of the whole community.

He is survived by his wife, before her marriage Miss Dorricott, a daughter and a son. The daughter. Miss Margaret Birdwell, is a lieutenant, U. S. N. R., and the son is Lieutenant Joseph A. Birdwell, '39, U. S. A. A. F., who has had a varied and trying experience on the ground in Europe and in the air. Mr. Birdwell was the son of Joseph E. and Mrs. Lily Birdwell, of Chuckey, Tenn. After funeral services at his home, interment followed in the Farmville Cemetery. [Westview Cemetery]
