Rites Pending Here for Tom Owens - Nov. 7, 1961

James Thomas Owens, 63, an employee of the S. R. Rogers farm south of Honey Grove, died in his sleep sometime Monday night. He had been dead apparently several hours when his wife and young son went to call him to breakfast about 6:00 o'clock Tuesday morning. He had been sleeping in a room alone since he had been in ill health.

A verdict of death from natural causes was returned by Peace Justice B. N. Parrish who was accompanied to the Owens home by Constable Henry Wood and Honey Grove Police Chief Charles Leslie.

A native of Telephone, Mr. Owens was born July 26, 1898.

His parents were Sam Owens and Maude B. Mendenhall Owens.

He was married to Lillie Mae Penvel on March 17, 1919.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Route 1, Honey Grove; and these children: Lee Owens, Norfolk, Va.; Mike Owens, Cooper; Mrs. Gladys Wright, Denison; Sam Owens, Grand Prairie, Mrs. Tomie Mae Kirkpatrick, Denison; Mrs. Eva Nell Harvey, Sherman, and Louie Ronnie Owens of the home.

Robert West Funeral Home of Honey Grove is in charge of arrangements. The funeral will be held at West Funeral Chapel at 2:30 Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9. Officiant will be the Rev. T. J. Watts, pastor of the First Baptist Church and interment will be in the Dodd City Cemetery.
