Chester V. Schmidt, 73, of Fredericksburg died at 10:30 p.m. Monday in Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Fredericksburg.
Schmidt was born Oct. 4, 1906 in Gillespie County. He was married to Louise Knopp on June 3, 1931 in Fredericksburg. He was a local merchant and a longtime Fredericksburg resident.. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dr. Charles Schmidt and Dr. Thomas Schmidt, both of Fredericksburg and Dr. David Schmidt and Stephen Schmidt, both of San Antonio; a daughter, Mrs. David (Annette) McDormott of Garden Grove, Calif.; two brothers, Lawrence Schmidt of Los Angeles, Calif., and Marcus "Mike" Schmidt of Fredericksburg; a sister, Mrs. Jackson (Tillie) Johnson of Glendale, Ariz., and nine grandchildren.
