Betty Lou “Peggy” (Vaughan) Pate was born east of Sanger on February 16, 1928 to Oscar J. and Georgia Mae (Wilson) Vaughan. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in 1941 at the age of 13 and was a graduate of the Sanger High School Class of 1944.

Upon his return from the Navy, she married the love of her life, Willie Keith Pate on June 22, 1946 in Sanger. Keith and Peggy had celebrated 60 years of marriage at the time of his passing on November 7, 2006. To this union one daughter, Keith Ann Pate arrived on July 9, 1955, two granddaughters, Christen LeAnn (Wood) Canterbury and Tara Hammons, and two great-granddaughters, whom Peggy adored, are Sophia LeAnn Canterbury born on June 23, 2008 and Payton Rose Canterbury born on April 21, 2011.

After their marriage, Peggy worked in the banking industry at First National Bank of Sanger then they decided to move to Fort Worth where she worked at the Fort Worth National Bank, and upon their return to Sanger, Keith bought out his Daddy’s business partner, Buddy Wolfenbarger, in the Sanger Motor Company Chevrolet Dealership, and she worked at the First State Bank of Denton. Upon the retirement of Sanger Motor’s bookkeeper, Peggy began working alongside Willie Keith at the dealership and did so for 35 years until their retirement on February 26, 1981. She loved her work and all of their very good customers.

She and Keith loved to travel with their friends and while they were in business, they won trips to Paris, Austria, Brazil, Bermuda, the Bahama’s, Nova Scotia, Las Vegas, Washington, DC, and a private train trip to Williamsburg, Switzerland, and Italy.

Peggy loved playing cards with “Ma’s Sewing Circle” and especially their floats in the Homecoming Parade each year. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 1027 and had received her 50 year pin. She served as Secretary to the Sanger Ex-Student Association for 13 years, was a room mother six out of twelve years for Keith Ann’s class and served on the board of the Sanger Crises Center for a number of years. She also had a “green thumb” and loved working with her flowers. She faced life and death with a steadfast faith in a loving God and she loved her family and friends.
