Barnwell - Betty Chavis Smith, 80, died Thursday, July 16, 2015. She was the widow of the late Wade C. Smith. Mrs. Smith was a native of Aiken County and the daughter of the late Spurgon and Mattie Simmerman Chavis. She was a member of Gillette United Methodist Church, a seamstress and a homemaker. Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Gillette United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Jerkins and Rev. Kimmet Lott officiating. Interment will follow in Speedwell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Millette, SC. Survivors include five sons, John Still (Sinder), Michael Still, Andy Chavis, David Chavis and Dwight Chavis (Cassy); and seven daughters, Patsy Chavis (Frank), Helen Williams (Legree), Cheryl Kelly, Betty Ann Wood (Bob), Terry Davis and Christina Smith (Wayne); 39 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Perman Chavis and Robert Chavis (Angie); and one sister, Mary Hollawell.
