Archie I. Hollenback, 87, of Lock Haven, died at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport on Sunday, May 11, 2008.
He was born in Duryea on April 12, 1921, a son of the late Archibald and Phoebe (Brown) Hollenback.
Archie was Baptist by faith and was raised on a farm in Duryea. He attended Williamsport Community College (Penn Tech) for three years and worked in the Civil Conservation Corps camps prior to entering World War II.
Archie worked as a supervisor for the Ray-O-Vac Co. and also worked at West Pharmaceuticals in Jersey Shore for two years.
He was a workaholic who enjoyed all types of projects at home. He was an avid sports enthusiast - especially football - and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years.
He served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.
On June 23, 1979, Archie married Jean Fravel, who survived in Lock Haven. Also surviving were two sons; eight daughters; one adopted daughter; a brother, Clayton Hollenback of Pittston; a sister, Betty Wright of Muncy; 32 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Viola Phillips, in 1977 and by two sisters.
Funeral services were held at Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Deacon William R. Felmlee officiating.
Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
