L. Duane "Ole" Olson, of Beloit, WI, died July 13, 2015 in Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born May 5, 1927 in Blanchardville, WI, the son of the late Lyman M. and Mable C. (Paulson) Olson Kolden. Duane's family moved to Beloit when he was 2 years old and farmed in the South Beloit area. Ole, as he was better known, was employed by Freeman Shoe Company for 45 years, retiring as maintenance foreman in 1992. He was a member of Freeman Quarter Century Club. He served in the National Guard from 1948 until 1952. In his youth, his family farmed 165 acres of land that is now I-90 and Gardner St. He will be laid to rest on the very land which is now Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Ole attended Hayward School, a one room schoolhouse until the 8th grade and then Hononegah High School. Ole enjoyed all sports. In his younger years he played fast pitch softball. He loved to bowl, golf, hunt, go to ski meets, NASCAR and going to Green Bay Packer games. He traveled to North Carolina and enjoyed the Coca Cola 600. He always loved the outdoors and working in his yard. Ole enjoyed watching the birds and deer and sitting on the back patio feeding the chipmunks. He was a handyman that could fix anything. Ole loved to "tinker" on small engines and get them back in running condition. Beloit Daily News - Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
