Howard C. Murphy, 68, 414 Hollister Ave., died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 1963, in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born May 18, 1895, in St. Pau. Ore., son of William and Emma Murphy. Lived 43 years in Rockford, coming here from St. Paul Ore. Married the former Ellen Sidell in Rockford, Oct. 11, 1919. Employed as a polisher by Atwood Vacuum Machine Co. for 29 years. Veteran of World War I serving in the Army in France. Member of Col. Lawler Post 342, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Attended St. Paul, Ore., schools.
Survivors include: his widow Ellen; two daughters, Mrs. Eileen Elliott, and Mrs. Darlene Hallbera, both of Rockford; three sons, Ronald, Rockford; Maj. Roland Murphy, with the Air Force at Goose Bay, Labrador; and Richard, Woodburn, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.
Services at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, in Sundberg Funeral Home. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
