When Mary Ellen's step-mother, Hannah, the second wife of James Edward Collopy, fell ill with Tuberculosis, Mary Ellen came home to care for the younger children, her step-siblings.
Hannah died in 1905.
Mary Ellen died at a Care Facility on Boyd Road in Pleasant Hill, near her granddaughter.
