Stevens and Miss Alice B. Jeffrey. The Father's name of the said James T. Stevens is Wilford T. Stevens and the maiden name of the mother was Louisa Thornburth, and the father's name of the said Allie B. Jeffrey is James B. Jeffrey and the maiden name of the mother is Rosa Penton. The said James T. Stevens resides in the County of Gage and State of Nebraska, is aged 29 years, was born in Iowa. The said Allie B. Jeffrey resides in the County of Gage in the State of Nebraska, is aged 18 years, was born in Iowa. They were married on the 14th day of April A.D. 1891 by me, in the presence of James Wonder, residing in the County of Gage and State of Nebraska and Mrs. James Wonder, residing in the County of Gage and State of Nebraska. James T. Stevens, a retired building contractor who had moved with his wife to Chicago, where they purchased an apartment building near the lake front and a few blocks from the campus of Chicago University, in which they were making their home, was shot and killed in a robbery near his home on April 1st. He was on his way to the bank when police heard a pistol shot. He was found by police in an empty ground floor apartment a few blocks from where he lived. The robber took about $70 in cash, but left his gold watch. The body was brought back to Sayville and interred in St. Ann's Cemetery, the funeral conducted by Rev. Joseph H. Bond, rector of St. Ann's Church. After his death, Mrs. Stevens moved to Sayville to live with her daughter.
