NORBERT AND DOLORES GROSS
Norbert Gross was born in Earling December 9, 1910. His father, Joseph Gross, was born February 22, 1870, and his mother, Mary Engel, was born October 8, 1879. Norbert came to Defiance in 1945, was a farmer and seed corn salesman, and is now retired. His brothers and sisters are: Anna, Clara, Gertie, Mike, Andrew, Leonard, Werner, Emil, AIbin, Marcus and Charles.
Norbert married Dolores Schnuettgen on January 4. 1938. She was born on May 11, 1917 in Buck Grove. Dolores was the daughter of August Schnuettgen, who was born in Earling on January 9, 1888. He died September 7, 1978, at the age of 90. Her mother, Mathilda Kohls Schnuettgen, was born in Bow Valley, Nebraska, on September 23, 1894, and resides at the Manilla Manor. Her brothers and sisters are: Mary Ella, Donna, Marie, Rita, Betty, Othmar, Gus, John and Gene.
Norbert is a Grand Knight of Columbus {third and fourth degree), president of Senior Citizens {Silver Tops), and member of Holy Name Society. Both are members of St. Peter's Parish. Dolores belongs to the Women's Church Council.
They are parents of: Tom; Jim married to Norma Wageman; Marce married to Fred Youngman; Mary Jane married to John Brody; Randy married to Debbie John; Virginia married to Paul Kruse;" Lorie Ann married to Scott Bandow; and Samuel, who was killed in a car accident April 3, 1966. They have 17 grandchildren.
