Carmelia Parrott daughter to Charles and Elizabeth Parrott (French immigrants) born July 3, 1845 in Detroit, Michigan. She is the sixth of seven children and was the first to be born in the USA. Her parents moved to Lowell, Kent County, Michigan in 1850 and her father was a farmer.
She married John Howard who was shoemaker in Lowell. They had 3 children, Ida May Howard, Minerva Howard and Audie Howard. John was a member of the Union Army and was stationed on the Fort Hindman gunboat. He came back in poor health and in much pain that he couldn't work. Carmelia and John divorced and John went to stay at the Michigan Old Soldiers Home in Grand Rapids.
Carmelia married George W. Cook on Dec. 24, 1888. Carmelia and George were married for 30 years at the time of her death.

Born in Detroit, moving to Lowell with her parents where she resided until her marriage with John Howard. To this union were born three daughters, only one living now. The husband dying at the Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
December 24, 1888, the deceased was married to Geo. W. Cook, with whom she has lived for nearly thirty years. Surviving her, besides her aged husband, is one brother, Clement Parrott, one sister, Mary Eldred, one daughter, Mrs. John Griffin, four grand children, eleven great-grand children and a host of friends to mourn her loss.
Though a great sufferer, of the past three years, she was patient and uncomplaining. A kind neighbor, a loving mother and faithful, unselfish wife. She has been a member of the U. B. church for a number of years, sterling Christian, and a member of the W. C. T U. for about three years.
Interment was in the Lakeview cemetery.
