WINTON TEACHER DIES AT HOME
Winton school children lost a teacher and friend yesterday afternoon with the death of Mrs. Alice Blanche Blackmun, 59. She died at her home in Winton after an illness of several months.
A native of Nevada, she was brought to California when one year old. While she had permanent residence in California, Mrs. Blackmun taught school for two years in Nevada and one year in Honolulu. She was an instructor at schools in and about Oakland for six years.
Mrs. Balckmun started teaching school in Winton in 1915 and since that time has been an active community worker. She was a member of the Winton Presbyterian church, primary superintendent of the Sunday school and a member of the Women's Improvement club and the Winton Missionary society.
She is survived by her husband W.C. Blackmun in Winton and two brothers, J.H. Collier and A.M. Collier in Oakland. She also leaves two stepsons, Dr. Harold Blackmun of Chowchilla and Edmund Blackmun in Winton.
Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Winton Presbyterian church with the Rev. David McMartin officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Winton cemetery. The body will be at Welch and Griffin funeral home until Thursday morning.
