She was born in Petersburg on February 26, 1940, the daughter of the late Virgil and Maysel (Alt) Borror.
On October 19, 1964, Janet married her husband of almost 51 years, Junior Whetzel, who survives in Petersburg.
Janet attended school in Petersburg and was a member of the Potomac Valley Baptist Church in Maysville, WV.
She worked 7 years for Rockingham Foods, 14 years at Hanover Shoe Factory and 2 years at American Woodmark.
Janet also babysit children for 20 years.
She enjoyed sewing, collecting antiques and loved animals.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Whetzel is survived by: a daughter, Debra Strother and husband, Keith, of Front Royal, VA; 2 sons, Tim Whetzel of Gulfport, MS and Roy Kuykendall of Petersburg; 2 sisters, Diana Teter of Petersburg and Hope Harman of Stafford, VA; 5 grandchildren, Brian Shreve, Jessica Shreve, Jordan Whetzel, Stephanie Wood and Jason Calhoun; 3 great-grandchildren, Jossalyn Cullers, Lila Wood and Cameron Wood.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whetzel is preceded in death by: 1 son, Jimmy Allen Whetzel; 1 brother, Everly Borror; 1 infant sister, Shelby Dean Borror and 1 grandson, Brian Whetzel.
Per Mrs. Whetzel's request her body will be cremated.
There will be a Memorial Service at a later date in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg with Rev. Ted Anderson officiating.
Her cremains will be inurned at the Whetzel Family Cemetery.
