Lee Baker Jr. born October 5, 1928 in Mount Ida, Arkansas, died on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at his home in Freedom, California. He was 80 years old.
Lee Baker Jr. was a resident of the Pajaro Valley for over 65 years. In 1947 he married Bettie Jene Tibbitts, and together raised their family in Watsonville. Mr. Baker retired in 1990 from National Refractories, Moss Landing after 40 plus years of employment. He was active with the Arthur Road Baptist Church of Watsonville, and became a member in 1976.
Mr. Baker was an avid outdoorsman, and was a member of the Watsonville Rod and Gun club for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and attempted to instill in his daughters and grandchildren an appreciation of the out-of-doors.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Angie and Larry Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; Carolyn and Tim Welch of La Selva Beach; and Marilyn and Peter Venturini of San Carlos; his sister, Wanda Summitt, of Arkansas; his grandchildren Cara and spouse Lance Stackhouse, Jodi and spouse Dave Cavender, Ryan Burgess and spouse Whitney, Randy Smith, and Nicole Venturini; and great grand-children: Daniel Smith, Shilo Smith, Bentley Stackhouse, Gracie Cavender, and Jonas Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Bettie in 2007.
Friends and family may visit at Davis Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 23rd from 6-8 PM. A graveside funeral service was held Friday, July 24, 2009 at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park at 11:00 AM.
