Mrs. Catherine P. “Cathy” Bertolotti, age 59 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 at the University Hospital, Columbia, Mo.
Cathy was born October 1, 1955 in St. Louis, Mo. the daughter of Dr. Richard S. and Jeanne Porter Starks.
She was married on September 15, 1984 to Mark A. Bertolotti who preceded her in death on May 22, 2005.
She was a 1973 graduate of Jefferson City High School and later received her degree in education from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
After graduation from college, Cathy taught school in Dallas, Texas for several years and met her husband Mark while living in Dallas. They moved back to Jefferson City over thirty years ago.
Cathy has enjoyed being an art teacher at St. Peter’s School for the past twenty-seven years and taught a brief time period at Immaculate Conception School. She was an extremely creative person and even though she taught math for several years, her main passion was teaching art.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, a member of the Art Bazaar, a board member of the Mo. Blues Society and was proud to be an honorary member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Cathy had a great energy about her and had many hobbies. During any free time she loved teaching and playing guitar, gardening, caring for animals, painting, and being outdoors. Many of her works of art are on display around Jefferson City.
Survivors include: two daughters, Ashley “A.J.” Geritz and her husband Chad of Eugene, Missouri and Carrie E. Lawrence and her husband Parker of Jefferson City, Missouri; her mother, Jeanne Russell of Jefferson City, Missouri; two brothers, Richard S. Starks, II of Overland Park, Kansas and David L. Starks and his wife Tobi of Olathe, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Dr. H.A. and Marjorie Starks; her maternal grandparents, John and Harriet Porter; her father, Dr. Richard S. Starks; her step-father, Ben W. Russell; and her husband, Mark.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Gregory Meystrik officiating.
Private graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Peter’s School for an Art Scholarship Fund in Cathy’s Memory or to the Mo. Blues Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
