Son of John McMurtrie and Agnes Bowman. Married Rosina McMinn 7 December 1866 in Dailly.

Erected by William McMurtrie in memory of his son WILLIAM died in infancy. Also his daughter ANNIE died 21st May 1914 aged 33 years. Also is son WILLIAM killed in action at Loos France 23 September 1915 aged 23 years. Also his son JOHN killed in action at Messinis France 12 July 1917 aged 44 years. The above WILLIAM McMURTRIE died at Dalquharran 2nd September 1921 aged 83 years. Also ROSINA McMINN wife of the above William McMurtrie died 12th December 1935 aged 90 years. Also his son THOMAS died 2nd October 1952 aged 74 years. Also his daughter AGNES died 9th September 1955 aged 86 years. Also his daughter HELEN died 23rd February 1965 aged 89 years. Also his daughter ROSINA died 15 June 1970 aged 72 years
