Helen Aagaard Mentzer, 97, of Seminole, Fla., joined the angels above on April 3, 2011.

She was born May 21, 1913, in Easton, Pa. Helen graduated from Wilson Borough High School in 1931, and married her husband, Robert Mentzer, in 1934. She worked as a dental assistant for many years in her youth, but devoted her life to her husband and children. While living in Grove City, Pa., Seneca, Pa., Waynesburg, Pa., Parkersburg and Weirton, W.Va., she was very active as a Rotaryann in the local Rotary Clubs. In Weirton, she and Bob were loving host parents to six Rotary International Exchange students from Germany, Belgium, Australia, Sweden and Denmark. Helen loved introducing these students to our country.

In 1977 the Mentzers moved to the Seminole area, and in 1992 became residents of Lake Seminole Square. Helen started and chaired the Art Committee at LLS featuring displays of residents artwork on a monthly basis. Her home was always open to prospective residents and she greatly assisted the marketing department.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Hertha Aagaard, and two brothers, Paul and Lester.

Helen is survived by her husband, Robert, of 76 years; two daughters, Carolyn Mentzer Byham (husband William C..) of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Christine Mentzer Batten (husband David P.) of Baltimore, Md; four grandchildren, Tacy M. and Carter W. Byham of Pittsburgh, Erika Batten Goldwater (husband John A.) of Cambridge, Mass. and Kurt D. Batten of Baltimore and three great grandchildren, Spencer Byham-Carter, Olivia Goldwater and Mitchell Goldwater. Helen's lovely smile and fun spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Lake Seminole Square at a later date.

The family requests donations be made to Lake Seminole Square Scholarship Fund, 8333 Seminole Boulevard, Seminole, Fla.
