Simeon enlisted in the Confederate army on 29 Apr 1862. He enlisted in the 47th Alabama Infantry Co. K. Enlisting as a 2nd Sergeant he was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant. On 9 Apr 1865 Simeon was at the surrender of the Confederate army at the Appomattox Court House.

Simeon married Frances Ann Formby the daughter of John Franklin Formby and Harriet Holcomb Chaney on 7 Jan 1855 in Chambers, Alabama. They had 9 known children, William, John, Mary, Sarah, Thomas, James, Richard, Wilson, and Douglas.
