Mr. Clark Clovis McKissack, 82, passed away peacefully on July, 9, 2015, in Ocean Springs, MS. He was born on November 19, 1932, in Poplarville, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents C. K. and Bennie McKissack; brother, E. J. McKissack; sisters, Gwen McKissack and Katie Howard; and mother-in-law, Gladys Crow

Mr. McKissack is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mrs. Wanda McKissack; two daughters; Kathy (Bill) Greenleaf and Pam McClure; grandson, Austin McClure; sister, Faye Sorrels; niece, Kay (Gary) Surrett; sister-in-law, Gloria Case, and many more nieces and nephews.

Clovis graduated from Brookhaven High School where he played numerous sports. He continued his education at Mississippi State University on scholarship in football and baseball. He graduated from Mississippi State with a Bachelor degree in physical Education. He continued his education at University of Southern Mississippi and received a Master’s Degree.

He began his career with 10 years of service at Hawking Junior High School. In 1968 he moved to Pascagoula to work in the Pascagoula School System where he taught Drivers Education and coached football and baseball. He was later appointed Athletic Director for the Pascagoula School System. He retired from the school system in 1989. After retirement coach McKissack spent many years being a caretaker of property for a dear friend. In his spare time, he loved playing a good game of golf.

He was an active member of Martin Bluff Baptist Church where he held the honor of Deacon Emeritus.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Services will begin at noon and will be officiated by Dr. Frank O. Rice and Brother Eric Smith. A private graveside and Interment will be Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Glenwood Cemetery, Yazoo City, MS.

Pallbearers will include Austin McClure, Kenny Smith, Bill Greenleaf, Shane Mixon, Charles Jones, Sam Hollingswoth, and Sam Jones. Honorary Pallbearer – Wayne Smith

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations to be made to Martin Bluff Baptist Church-Building Fund, 7417 Martin Bluff Road, Gautier, MS 39553.
