Marguerite Heafner Obituary
LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Marguerite Bandy Heafner, 91, of Aldersgate United Methodist Home in Charlotte and longtime resident of Lincolnton, died Monday, June 11, 2007. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, at First United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, with the Revs. Michael Gehring and Harold Leatherman officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton. The family will be at the church from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. today, Saturday. Born in Catawba County, Mrs. Heafner was the daughter of the late Dr. William Gaither Bandy and Myrtle Leota Daniel Bandy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lawson Hal Heafner, and seven of her eight siblings. Mrs. Heafner was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and she later received a master's degree from Appalachian State University. She established the Heafner Scholarship Fund in 1996 for Appalachian students. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, serving as Sunday school teacher of the Philethia class for many years. Taking a leadership roll in numerous community activities and causes, she was active in the United Methodist Women, the DAR, book, garden and bridge clubs, and Scouting. Mrs. Heafner served on the State Democratic Executive Committee and was a recipient of the Lincoln County Woman of the Year award. Mrs. Heafner was a devoted teacher and later retired as principal of Park Elementary School. Survivors include her two sons, Bill Heafner and wife, Wendy, of Asheboro and Jim Heafner of Charlotte; one brother, Dr. Allen Hill Bandy and wife, Jackie, of Newton; three stepgrandchildren, Lee Miller, Westly Miller and Lane Miller; and many loving nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Lincolnton, 201 E. Main St., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092. Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton is serving the Heafner family.
