Johnny Orval Elston passed away on July 8, 2015. He was born January 3, 1935, in Forgan, OK. He remained in Forgan until he graduated from high school, and married the love of his life, Susan McDaniel of Woodward, OK, on May 28, 1955. Together they raised their family in Hugoton, KS, and Guymon, OK, and ultimately moved to Edmond in 1991 after Johnny retired from a 37-year career with Northern Natural Gas and Enron.

Johnny loved teaching kids life skills through scouting and sports. He was very involved with Boy Scouts of America and served as Cub Scout Master and Assistant Scout Master while in Guymon. Johnny was unyielding in his dedication to little league baseball. He was part of a small group who started the first Little League baseball program in Hugoton where he coached one of the teams. He continued coaching for 26 years in Hugoton and Guymon, and served on the board of directors of Kids Inc. for several years. For many of those years Johnny managed the ball field.

Woodworking was a life-long passion of Johnny. He loved carving and building intricate clocks and jewelry boxes. Johnny gave away most of what he built. For several years he made trophies and plaques for the Young Bowlers of America, a group that he and his late wife, Susan, loved. He also built awards for the Guymon Booster Club and he and Susan were honored as ‘Outstanding Tiger Boosters’ and ‘Honorary Tigerettes’.

More than anything, Johnny and Susan loved their children, grand children and great grand children. Johnny is survived by daughter & son-in-law, Rhonda & Ed Pearson and their children, Tanae & Cory Clark, Brandon & Jamee Pearson, Keith Pearson & Shayla Pearson; son & daughter-in-law, John & Garna Elston and their children, Leslie Vasquez and Audra & Jose Vasquez, son & daughter-in-law, Kevin & Kari Elston and their children, Jarad Elston, Tyler Elston and Taryn Elston; 11 great grand children, brother, Jim Elston and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his wife, Susan Elston, parents, Orval & Marie Elston, and brother, Jack Elston.

Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
