Donald Neal Hydeman, 89, peacefully passed away on July 6, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Don was born on Aug. 30, 1925, in Kansas City, KS, the youngest son of the late Oscar and Winnie Hydeman. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris Jean and four sons: Randall Neal of Kansas City, MO; Kent David and wife Diane of Roeland Park, KS; Scott Alan and wife Lee of Roeland Park, KS; and Craig Stephen and wife Tammy of Overland Park, KS. He also leaves behind 11 beautiful grandchildren: Amy and husband Steve Tatge, Zachary, Matthew, Andrew, Neal, Seth, Britta, Ana, Katherine, and Erik. He was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard and Edward. Don grew up in Roeland Park, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School (today known as Shawnee Mission North High School) where he met the love of his life and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean, on April 4, 1945. This year Don and Doris celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in a special renewal of their vows. Don served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 during WWII. In 1952, Don joined Bricklayers Local #18. He served as a business agent from 1971 to 1999 for Local 18. He was an apprenticeship instructor and a trustee on the pension of Health and Welfare plans and lived to be a 68 year member known by nearly all. More than anything, Don treasured his time with his family at the lake and at home where he shared many celebrations with his family. He loved telling stories about his children and grandchildren of past memories full of laughs and giggles. Along with his chocolate, cashews and bacon, he also loved the KC Royals. He will be forever missed for his joy and love of life. The Hydeman family would like to give special thanks to Grace Hospice and Donald's caregiver, Elizabeth Ergmann for their loving and compassionate care provided over the past year.
