Eliza J Cox Shepherd was the daughter of Isaac Cox and Sarah Conway Cox of Highland County, Ohio. At the tender age of 16, she married budding farmer, Theodore Shepherd. She and Theo had 4 children all born in Ohio:

William Alfred (named for Theo's father Dr. William Alfred Shepherd)

Frances Ann (named for Theo's Mother Frances Ann Rogers Shepherd)

Charles Arthur (named for her grandfather Charles Conway)

and Leo Walter.

Theo and "Lida" were devoted to each other. They followed oldest son William to Wabaunsee County in the mid 1880s with Charley and Leo. Daughter Frances (probably married) stayed behind).

Lida died of pneumonia in 1911. Theo was inconsolable and despondent for years. He ended up taking his own life in 1915.
