A son of the late Irvin and Anna Pabst Bassler, Mr. Bassler was retired Business Manager of The Portsmouth Times. He began his association with The Times upon high school graduation in 1926. He was transferred to Canton in 1938 where is served in the advertising department of The Canton Repository until 1941. He also worked as manager of the advertising department of The Marion Star before returning to Portsmouth in 1953 as business manager.

A member of First United Presbyterian Church and Portsmouth Elks Lodge, he is survived by his wife Evelyn Devoss Bassler and two sons, Richard and William, both of Columbus; a sister Mrs. Ruth Mahle of Ironton and two grandchildren.

NOTE: The obituary indicated burial is in Scioto Burial Park, but this grave was found in Rush Twp. Burial Park.
